~ A Story from Last Year ~ On my way back to the basement level 2 of Nakaniwa Station's station building, I stumbled upon an antique shop tucked away at the edge of the underground parking lot that I usually just pass by. It was already past 10 PM, but a small sign indicating that the shop was still open was displayed on the door. The door, which looked as if it had been forcibly cut out and fitted into the raw concrete of reinforced steel, appeared rather stylishly gothic at a glance, a design that my roommate would surely appreciate. As it happened, I was in search of a gift for that very roommate, so after a moment of hesitation, I reached for the door handle. ■ The setting is the end of the year, against the backdrop of the underground shopping area of Nakaniwa Station just before Christmas. The story unfolds around the vampire owner of the karaoke café CHANTS, Sayoko Isogai, and her part-time worker, Kagamiko Airanashi, who has been working there since last year, detailing their daily interactions. The protagonist, Shinta Kawahara, is a vampire who enjoys food and has a hobby of building plastic models, while Sayoko, a chubby homebody, loves food, and Kagamiko, a well-endowed girl, enjoys ice cream and also builds plastic models. She has even remodeled the back of the kitchen into a living space and lives there as a semi-recluse. Although she rents a room five minutes away on foot from the next station, she dislikes going outside and rarely returns. As she drinks Shinta's blood, she has become able to withstand sunlight. Her favorite food is anything edible, and her hobby is building plastic models. She particularly likes the entire first series of Mobile Suits. ■ Kagamiko Airanashi (いろなしかがみこ) 【CV: Hina Mutsuki】 A part-timer at the karaoke café CHANTS, soon to complete her first year. She is a graduate student in mathematics at a university one station away from Nakaniwa Town Station, living alone. Her favorite snacks are rice crackers and ice cream, and she likes the Jupiter series of Mobile Suits. ■ Shinta Kawahara (かわはらしんた) 【CV: Jun Fukuda】 A pure-blood vampire who was saved by Sayoko a few years ago when he was on the verge of collapse due to neglecting blood intake. Since then, he has been living with her while contributing to the living expenses. Although he is pure-blood, he was born human and seems to have a different origin from the naturally-born "nobles" of vampires. It’s a secret that he is younger than Sayoko. His favorite Mobile Suit is any amphibious model from all series. ■ Mr. Maeda 【CV: Kazuma Ichimaku】 After leaving his previous job where he worked for 35 years, he established Maeda Surveying and Design and hired Shinta and his eldest daughter, Kyoko, while planning a comfortable life before retirement as a company president. However, he underestimated the busyness of a small business, which has become quite evident. Now, he finds himself busy with fieldwork in local remote mountains, dams, and forest roads, being dragged along by employee Shinta and new part-timer Kamihara-kun. His knowledge of Mobile Suits comes from having accompanied his youngest daughter to the cinema once.
