Here, the spirits of children who died young are tasked with stacking stones. It is certainly not a comfortable place. Reimu: "So I have to pass through here to get to hell, huh?" The animal spirit that should be accompanying her does not say anything. Reimu: "Why don’t you say something?" After possessing Reimu, the animal spirit has not spoken a word. Reimu: "Well, it can't be helped. I’ll understand once I reach hell." Crossing the Sanzu River, animal spirits have been arriving one after another from the afterlife. It seems that the animal spirits are trying to dominate Gensokyo by force. The animal spirit possessing Reimu is originally from Gensokyo and is said to be a traitor among the animal spirits of hell. It wants to stop the animal spirits from going to hell and invading Gensokyo alongside humans. It’s unclear whether the animal spirit’s words are true. However, it is a fact that the animal spirits are invading Gensokyo. Reimu has chosen to borrow the power of the animal spirit to charge into hell. The personality of the protagonist changes slightly depending on the possessed animal spirit. Animal Spirit Items When defeating enemies, there may be times when animal spirit items (and item fish spirits) are released. They will fly around the screen for a while. Collecting animal spirit items (and item fish spirits) will stock them in the lower left corner. Nothing happens with just one, but collecting five will trigger a certain duration of "Roaring Mode" (described later). Roaring Mode When you have five animal spirit items stocked in the lower left, regardless of type, the background darkens and you enter a special mode called Roaring Mode. During Roaring Mode, the following effects occur: - If you are hit or press the bomb button, you can use "Spirit Strike." Items - Spirit Power Up Item: Collecting many will power you up. - Score Item: Collecting at the top of the screen yields a higher score. - Spell Card Fragment: Collecting three increases your spell card count. - 1UP Fragment: Collecting three increases your remaining lives. *The above items will be automatically collected when you bring your character to the top of the screen. - Score Item (green): Raises the maximum score of score items. It appears when you hit shots or eliminate enemy bullets during Roaring Mode. It is automatically collected. - Animal Spirits (Wolf, Otter, Eagle): Collecting three or more of the same type will cause them to rampage. - Item Fish Spirit: Items will be released at the end of Roaring Mode. Detailed Specifications - You can slow down the reduction of the time limit in Roaring Mode by stopping shooting. - The duration of Rampaging Roaring Mode is determined by the number of animal spirits you have collected. If you gather five of the same animal, the mode lasts longer. - Collecting animal spirits during Roaring Mode slightly extends the time limit. Collecting item fish spirits during Roaring Mode will immediately release items. - Animal spirit items will change after a certain amount of time. You can stop the change by getting close. - If you lose, your type of animal spirit will appear. This spirit will not change into another type, even if you wait. - Animal spirits will escape off the screen if left unattended for a long time, but this takes a considerable amount of time. - During conversations, animal spirits will not disappear no matter how long they are left alone. You can also wait for changes while ignoring the conversation.
